WHY
HAS THIS GRANTS PROGRAM BEEN ESTABLISHED?
First,
we seek to improve the lives of people, present and future, throughout
the world by advancing the life sciences.
Next, we hope to create goodwill in the community and cause these
kinds of programs to be established by other companies.
Finally,
we hope to do a better job serving our customers through the knowledge
and the contacts we establish as we pursue this program.
WHO
IS QUALIFIED TO APPLY FOR A TURNER BIOSYSTEMS GRANT?
Qualified
applicants: Scientists, researchers, grad students, post docs
working in life sciences in colleges, universities, non-profit institutions
worldwide.
Make
sure that you have access to your institution/department website.
As a grantee, it is a requirement to link your website to www.turnerbiosystems.com.
We will send out the instrument once the link has been established.
We require this to help publicize our program. We would appreciate
it if you would link your department web page to this page when
you apply for a grant. Linking to Turner BioSystems is only
a requirement if you are a grant recipient.
Not Qualified: Competitors, suppliers, dealers, and people working in environmental
and aquatic sciences. (Technology licenses with other companies
require us to create these restrictions.)
WHICH FLUOROMETERS ARE OFFERED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM?
Review all grant instruments by choosing the Instruments Offered button on the right. Submit your application for the specific model that best matches your research needs, and only apply for one model each quarter.
WHO
RECEIVES THE GRANT?
The grant is awarded to an institution, not to the individual applicant.
The instrument is granted to an institution to help insure its long-term
use for scientific research.
HOW
ARE GRANTEES CHOSEN?
All properly submitted applications will be reviewed by the Turner BioSystems Grant Committee of scientists. After reviewing
the research presented on each application form, applicants are chosen to receive a grant. We review and grant instruments on a quarterly basis
during the months of June, September, December, and March with grant
recipients being notified around the 15th of those months.
HOW
WILL I KNOW IF WE ARE AWARDED A GRANT?
All applicants will be e-mailed at the end of the quarter (June,
September, December, and March) notifying them if they have or have
not been chosen as a grantee. Grant Recipients will be notified
via e-mail and will then be instructed on how to complete the process
and receive their instrument.
IF
MY APPLICATION IS NOT CHOSEN, CAN I APPLY AGAIN?
Yes, you can apply again by completely filling out a new application
form. There is no limit to the times you can apply for a
grant, but once you are granted an instrument, your institution can no longer
apply or be eligible for another grant.
HOW
DO I KNOW WHEN TO APPLY AGAIN?
We suggest that you apply on a quarterly basis once you have received
an e-mail from us stating that your application has not been awarded.
DO
WE HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THE INSTRUMENT IF WE RECEIVE THE GRANT?
If your institution or company is granted an instrument, a purchase
order for $1.00 must be issued. Turner
BioSystems will generate an invoice against the purchase
order as we would with any purchase order. This process makes the
grant instrument the property of the institution rather than the property
of the person writing the application.
WHAT
ACCESSORIES ARE INCLUDED WITH THE INSTRUMENT?
Accessories will vary by instrument and you will be notified as to which accessories come with your instrument should your application be accepted.
If you wish to buy additional
accessories, they can be purchased on the same grant purchase order or later.
A one-year warranty on parts and labor is included with each instrument
granted.
WHAT
ARE THE CONDITIONS ATTACHED TO ACCEPTING AN AWARD LUMINOMETER?
1. Link your department to the Turner BioSystems Website. No grant instrument will be sent
until this link is active. We require this to help publicize this
program. We do not purchase ads to tell people that this
program exists, but we do want people to know they can get a life science instrument
through this program. We would appreciate it if you would link your
department web page to this page when you apply for a grant. Linking
is only a requirement if you receive a grant instrument. For further
instructions on how to link click here.
2.
Agree not to use the instrument to develop chemical or biological
weapons.
3.
Agree to return the instrument if your institution or company no
longer needs it. We will, in turn, grant it to another applicant.
WILL
MY INSTITUTIONS NAME BE USED IN ADVERTISING?
No. But we will post the names of institutions (and the person if
he or she agrees) who receive grants on our Grant
History page. We do this to enable applicants to see a history
of our program.
